Tennessee’s Diverse Reaction Towards The Constitutional Ruling On Obamacare

ObamacareWhen the U.S. Supreme Court decided that President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is constitutional, it elicited a lot of different views from people of all the states. Some favor the decision, while others are still against it. No matter how we look at it, there will always be supporters and haters of the health care reform law.

In Tennessee, we saw diverse reactions when the law was upheld. Some celebrated, while others feared that the health care reform will just cost the state more money. Governor Bill Haslam and Lt. Governor Rom Ramsey join the latter group. They both fear that the implementation of the health care reform law will be costly for the state. Both agree that the election of Mitt Romney in the upcoming November election will be the solution to totally repeal the Affordable Care Act. However, Gov. Haslam believes that it will not help solve America’s health care crisis.

But, for the millions of Tennesseans supporting the benefits offered by the health care reform law, they celebrated the news. For them, the Affordable Care Act will give the one million uninsured residents of Tennessee access to high quality and affordable Tennessee health insurance policies. It will offer health protection that millions of Tennesseans need.

At present, with the help of the health care reform law’s mandates, it has helped thousands of Tennesseans. Almost 82,000 Medicare beneficiaries benefited from the 50 percent discount given on brand name drugs and 797,000 have enjoyed the free preventive care coverage made possible by the mandates of the Affordable Care Act.

Tennessee needs to comply with the requirements and implement change in their health care system now that the law was upheld. We’ll have to wait and see if the election in November will favor the choice of Tennessee’s state leaders or the supporters of the law.
